In tribute to Karim Kamalov at his grave

Bukhara region has suffered a heavy loss. The acting hokim (governor) of the province, the eminent public figure Karim Kamalov, 65, passed away on August 22.

The deceased was buried at the Hazrati Imam cemetery in the city of Bukhara.

Today, on August 23, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the grave of Karim Kamalov. Surahs from the Koran were recited in honor of the departed.

During his 47 years of activity, Mr. Kamalov earned great respect as a person with leadership abilities and noble human qualities, made a significant contribution to the comprehensive development and improvement of Bukhara.

Karim Kamalov was born in 1955 in the sacred city. He graduated from the Bukhara Technological Institute of Food and Light Industry, and embarked on a career in construction industry. From 1994 to 2007 he fruitfully worked as the hokim of Bukhara city. During this time, the ancient town underwent unprecedented creative work, with steadfast socio-economic development. The 2,500th anniversary of the city was widely celebrated, and international festivals were held with great success. Historical monuments were restored and the tourist infrastructure was improved.

The rich knowledge and experience of Karim Jamolovich was clearly manifest when he was chairman of the 20 Trust limited liability company in 2007-2017.

Large-scale changes taking place in the region in recent years are also associated with Karim Kamalov’s prolific activities. Having held the post of Bukhara city hokim from 2017, and then – since February 2020 – that of the acting hokim of the region he served selflessly to effectively implement reforms. Working alongside members of the regional and city councils of people’s deputies, he contributed to the elaboration of important decisions to promote the socio-economic development of the region.

Karim Kamalov’s great services to the nation were adequately appreciated, and he was awarded the orders Dustlik (Friendship) and Mehnat Shuhrati (Glory of the Labor).
