Presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia Paid Tribute to the Memory of and Respect for the Feat of our Peoples

27.05.2024

As part of the program of events of the Uzbek-Russian summit, Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin visited the Victory Park Memorial Complex in Tashkent.

The multinational peoples of our countries cherish the memory of centuries-old of common history and its bright pages, including the victory in the Second World War.

Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the principle of ‘For the sake of human honor and dignity’ has been elevated to an absolute priority of the reform program. In particular, in order to perpetuate the memory of the heroism of the Uzbek people on the battlefields and the selfless work on the home front, on May 9, 2020, Victory Park was opened, on the initiative of our Head of State.

The vast territory of the complex is divided into several zones with their own emotional coloring - the horrors of war and the heroism of the soldiers, the resilience and selflessness of home front workers, grief and sorrow, joy and gratitude.

During the visit, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia honored the memory of the fallen soldiers by laying wreaths at the foot of the monument ‘Ode to Resilience’ erected in memory of Zulfiya Zakirova, a widow who lost five sons in the war.

At the highest point of the complex - at the top of the man-made mound - there is a sculptural composition ‘Eternal feat’ - a monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union Major-General Sobir Rakhimov and all Uzbekistan’s soldiers who participated in the Second World War.

The main pavilion of the park - the Museum of Glory with exhibits dedicated to the history of Uzbekistan's participation in the war - is located inside the mound.

The Leaders got acquainted with the rich exposition of the museum and noted the importance of cherishing the common memory of the heroic past. It was stressed that honoring historical heritage plays a key role in fostering patriotism among youth and strengthening cultural ties between nations.

The scale and grandeur of Victory Park made a great impression on the members of the Russian delegation.
