On April 24, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks at the Congress Center of “Silk Road Samarkand” complex with the participation of official delegations.
At the beginning of the meeting, the leader of Turkmenistan conveyed greetings and best wishes of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Head of our state.
Topical issues of further development and strengthening of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good-neighborliness and strategic partnership were discussed.
The dynamic development of multifaceted cooperation in all areas of interaction, including political, inter-parliamentary, trade and economic, transport and communication, cultural and humanitarian spheres, has been noted with deep satisfaction.
A fruitful dialogue is maintained at all levels. Meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, Business Council, Forum of Regions, cultural days, exhibitions, and others are regularly organized. Last year mutual trade turnover amounted to $1.1 billion. Trade houses have been established in the capitals, the volumes of cargo transportation are growing. The task has been set to bring the trade volume up to $2 billion in the coming years.
Mutually beneficial cooperation in the spheres of energy, transportation, agriculture, water management and other sectors of economy is developing. The “Shavat-Dashoguz” cross-border trade zone is jointly established.
Active interregional contacts have been established and a rich program of cultural and humanitarian exchange is being implemented.
An agreement has been reached to hold the third Forum of Regions in Khiva and Days of Turkmen Culture in Uzbekistan this year.
The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have also exchanged views on the agenda of regional partnership, including preparations for the upcoming summits in the “Central Asia Plus” format and the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State in Tashkent.
The Uzbek leader emphasized the importance of the upcoming forum in Ashgabat in December this year within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Confidence, declared by the United Nations General Assembly on Turkmenistan's initiative, as well as other international events.
During the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan presented the National Leader of the Turkmen people with a copy of his book “The Pearl of Reason” in Uzbek language, published in our country.
