During a telephone conversation held on April 26 President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev discussed matters of further strengthening Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations of friendship, strategic partnership and alliance.

The discussion focused on issues of practical implementation of agreements reached as a result of the state visit of President of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan in August last year.

The productive work carried out in the framework of the Year of economic cooperation has been noted with special satisfaction. From the beginning of the year the trade turnover increased by 20%. Projects in the sphere of machine building, textile, electronics, energy, agriculture, tourism and other sectors are in active phase. 

An intensive program of cultural and humanitarian exchanges is being jointly implemented. 

The importance of thorough preparations for the summits scheduled for this year, including holding the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, forums of regions and rectors, cultural events was noted.

The leaders also exchanged views on the regional agenda, reviewed the schedule of upcoming multilateral events, including within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States.
