President of Uzbekistan participates in festive events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory

09.05.2025

On May 9 at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the solemn events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II.

A Victory Parade was held on Red Square. The event was also attended by President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of Brazil Lula da Silva, President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro and others.

Victory in World War II is the result of courage, resilience and selflessness of millions of people. The multinational people of Uzbekistan have also made a significant contribution to the achievement of this great goal.

At the outbreak of the war, the population of our country amounted to more than 6 million people. During the war years, about two million Uzbeks were sent to the front. More than 538 thousand gave their lives on the battlefields, more than 158 thousand went missing.

Over 214 thousand soldiers and officers from Uzbekistan were awarded battle orders and medals for their courage and valor. 301 of our compatriots were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and another 70 became full cavaliers of the Order of Glory.

The labor heroism of the Uzbek people is no less significant. Our country became a reliable support for the front: food, uniforms, medicines, weapons and other necessary resources were continuously sent from here. In the shortest possible time, more than 170 evacuated enterprises that ensured the uninterrupted work of the defense industry were located in Uzbekistan.

In those hardest years, the people of Uzbekistan showed a high example of humanism by accepting more than 1.5 million evacuees from frontline areas, including over 250 thousand orphans.

The feat of the Uzbek people during the war is widely recognized in the international community.

Our country is also working hard to immortalize the memory of frontline heroes and home front workers, and special attention is paid to social support for veterans. A majestic memorial complex, Victory Park, has been created in Tashkent.

At the end of the Victory Parade, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, accompanied by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and other heads of state, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden.

This memorial, built in memory of millions of soldiers, including sons of Uzbekistan, who showed unparalleled courage and gave their lives in the name of victory, is a symbol of resilience, heroism and selfless exploits of the defenders of the Motherland.

The ceremony ended with a minute of silence and a solemn march by a company of honor guard and a military band.
