On August 9, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation. 

The Head of our state sincerely congratulated the leader and the brotherly people of Azerbaijan with the historic event – the signing of the peace declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the city of Washington.  

Confidence was expressed that the soonest official conclusion of a peace agreement will have a significant meaning in ensuring peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus. 

Topical issues of further developing and strengthening Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations of strategic partnership and alliance in the context of implementing agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan in July this year, were also discussed.

Productive contacts and exchanges on all levels continue. Since the beginning of this year the trade turnover grew by 30%. A portfolio of prospective cooperation projects in various economic sectors are being developed based on the “roadmap”. Practical works are held in the framework of the Production sharing agreement on a strategic project in oil and gas sector. 

The leaders also reviewed a schedule of upcoming high-level meetings and events.
