On October 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the development of artificial intelligence technologies in the country and their widespread implementation in the economy and social sphere.
Today, artificial intelligence is becoming one of the key tools in areas such as the economy, education, healthcare, security, and other important fields. Its use contributes to improving the efficiency of public administration, rational use of resources, and improving the quality of services provided to the population.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has been consistently implementing systemic reforms in this area. As a result, the country has risen 17 positions in the international ranking of artificial intelligence application, taking 70th place among 188 countries and first place in Central Asia.
As the President noted, these achievements are the result of the first steps taken in this direction, but there is still a lot of work ahead. To this end, the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy until 2030 was approved last year, and a special center was created under the Ministry of digital technologies.
The presentation reviewed the priority areas for the development of the industry.
A total of $50 million has been allocated for the implementation of artificial intelligence projects in the economic and social spheres. A package of 86 projects has been formed, covering healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, transport, ecology, and the financial sector. At the same time, a supercomputer cluster is being created, which will provide the country with modern computing power for the implementation of AI-based solutions.
- To accelerate the development of artificial intelligence, it is necessary to constantly study and implement advanced domestic and foreign experience. It is important to establish close cooperation with our compatriots working abroad, with leading experts and representatives of the private sector, - emphasized the Head of state.
During the discussion, it was noted that special attention should be paid to the creation of modern data centers and the formation of favorable conditions for investors interested in investing in the development of AI infrastructure.
The issue of training qualified personnel, a key factor in the successful development of the industry, was considered separately. It was emphasized that this work must begin in schools, with improving the qualifications of computer science teachers, updating curricula, and developing a new generation of textbooks.
A number of initiatives are being implemented to accelerate the training of specialists. As part of the national program “One million artificial intelligence leaders,” the educational platforms aistudy.uz and omp.aistudy.uz have been launched, offering five free online courses. By 2027, the program will enable the training of 1 million young people with modern knowledge and skills in the field of AI.
In order to identify and support promising ideas, artificial intelligence hackathons will be held in all regions of the country. In particular, the HealthTech AI Hackathon, dedicated to healthcare issues, was successfully held in Nukus. The importance of expanding this experience and organizing similar events in the fields of education, water management, the judicial system, and entrepreneurship was emphasized.
The President supported the plans announced and instructed that they be refined and expanded in the context of further accelerating work on the introduction of artificial intelligence, the application of best practices, and the enhancement of human resources in the field.
