The Imam Bukhari complex to become the center of science, enlightenment and upbringing

30.10.2025

On October 30, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Samarkand to take part in the opening ceremony of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.

Keeping the good tradition, the visit began with a stop at the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari. Verses from the Quran and dua were recited.

The Head of State reviewed the final stage of construction and landscaping of the complex. On the initiative of the President, it was completely rebuilt – in line with the high spiritual authority and great scholarly legacy of the eminent collector of hadiths, who holds a special place in the Islamic world. All necessary facilities have been created for pilgrims.

The territory of the complex has been expanded to 44 hectares. A mausoleum, a mosque for 10 thousand worshippers, an administrative building, a museum, and entrance and exit ayvans have been built. Four 75-meter minarets give the ensemble a majestic appearance.

The Head of State also became acquainted with the creative work underway in the new mosque.

Each time when visiting Samarkand, the President reviewed the progress of construction and emphasized that this complex should become not just a place of pilgrimage, but also a center of science, enlightenment, education, and spiritual guidance. This way the great works, knowledge, and spiritual perfection of Imam al-Bukhari will serve as an inspiring example, above all for the youth.

The new complex features an innovative museum dedicated to the life and scholarly legacy of Imam Bukhari – recognized as the “Sultan of the Muhaddith” in the Islamic world, as well as his contribution to the development of Islamic enlightenment. The museum presents information about the 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran, the genealogy of the Prophet Muhammad, his life in Mecca and Medina, and the process of collecting and recording hadiths.

Construction of hotels and service facilities around the sacred site is nearing completion. The area will include one four-star hotel, two three-star hotels and 22 family guesthouses.

The President instructed to ensure quality organization of the complex’s operations, enhance amenities for visitors and expand green areas.

In conclusion, tree saplings were planted on the territory of the complex as a sign of goodwill and blessings.
