On December 9, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) led by its president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who is visiting our country to participate in the General Assembly of this prestigious organization, taking place in Tashkent.
The delegation also included FIA’s senate president Carmelo Sanz de Barros and the deputy president for automobile mobility and tourism Tim Shearman.
Current issues on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with this global organization, governing motorsport and promoting road safety, were reviewed.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem highly commended the large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at developing professional and mass sports, promoting a healthy lifestyle, increasing physical activity among the population, fostering a harmoniously developed generation.
The importance was noted of close cooperation in the development of a whole spectrum of automobile sport in our country – from karting to formula-type races.
Particular attention was paid to the Federation's support in training Uzbek drivers, karting racers, engineers, designers, and mechanics, leveraging the capabilities of the FIA University, as well as the creation of modern motorsport infrastructure in Uzbekistan, implementation of programs to ensure the safety of people and transport mobility, and hosting of international competitions under the FIA's auspices, primarily Formula 1 races.
At the conclusion of the meeting, in recognition of his significant personal contribution to developing cooperation with the International Automobile Federation and promoting motorsport in Uzbekistan in line with international standards, the Leader of our country presented the head of the FIA with a high state honor – the Order of “Dustlik”.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan has been an active member of the federation since 2019. Last year, the city of Samarkand hosted an extraordinary anniversary FIA General Assembly dedicated to its 120th anniversary. As part of the current event, on December 12, an awards ceremony for the best athletes and teams will take place at the Humo Arena complex, with the attendance of high-ranking foreign guests and champion drivers.
