President of Uzbekistan states the importance of strengthening peace and trust for sustainable development

12.12.2025

On December 12, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in an International Forum in Ashgabat dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality, the International Day of Neutrality, and the declaration of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust".

The event, chaired by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was attended by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, as well as leaders of other states, heads of governments, international and regional organizations.

In his address, the President of Uzbekistan sincerely congratulated the Turkmen side on the 30th anniversary of its permanent Neutrality, emphasizing that this significant date embodies Turkmenistan's unwavering commitment to developing peaceful, trusting, friendly, as well as mutually beneficial relations with all countries of the world.

- Turkmenistan's neutrality, which has become part of the modern identity of the Turkmen people, is based on its deep historical traditions, cultural and spiritual values, and such noble qualities inherent to it as generosity, tolerance, and good-neighborliness, -  stated Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In this regard, the initiative of Turkmenistan to establish a University of Peace and Neutrality jointly with the United Nations, was supported.

The Head of our state noted that for the New Uzbekistan, openness to the world, mutual respect, and a commitment to dialogue are fundamental values. One of such testaments to this is the Samarkand Solidarity Initiative for Common Security and Prosperity, put forward by Uzbekistan, which aims to engage in dialogue all those who strive for peace, harmony, and sustainable development.

Moreover, Uzbekistan intends to define the main priorities of its upcoming chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement as promoting a global movement in support of a culture of peace and non-violence, strengthening trust in relations between states through political dialogue, and fostering a global atmosphere of tolerance, mutual understanding, and solidarity.

During the chairmanship, it’s also planned to declare 2027 the Year of Preventive Diplomacy to support conflict resolution efforts for the benefit of future generations. Within this framework, a program of events will be adopted, including the organization of conferences and forums, as well as exchanges of parliamentary, public, and youth delegations.

The President of our country noted the growing relevance of maintaining a universal commitment to the principles of peacefulness and mediation in the current conditions of global tension and declining trust between states. Therefore Uzbekistan supported Turkmenistan's proposal to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, acting as co-sponsor the relevant resolution of the UN General Assembly.

He also highlighted that the principles of mutual trust, respect, and solidarity form the basis of the policy to transform Central Asia into a region of peace, cooperation, and good-neighborliness.

- The seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of state of the region that took place last month in Tashkent, once again demonstrated our readiness to strengthen solidarity, take joint action to ensure peace and stability in the region, and expand multifaceted economic cooperation, -  stated Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In this context, the Head of our state underscored the special role of Turkmenistan's constructive and peaceful policy in ensuring stability and development in Central Asia.

He expressed confidence that Turkmenistan's international initiatives and proposals, based on the noble ideas of peace and trust, will be reflected in the agenda of Ashgabat's chairmanship of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of the region.

Highlighting the importance of humanitarian cooperation in strengthening collaboration based on mutual respect, trust, and solidarity, the Leader of Uzbekistan proposed organizing the "Dialogue of Cultures" international humanitarian forum in Tashkent next year and launching the "Youth for Peace and Trust" regional program.

In conclusion, the Head of our state emphasized Uzbekistan's readiness to continue to make a constructive contribution to building a just and stable world order.
