President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier held talks at the Kuksaroy residence in both narrow and expanded formats.
The discussions focused on further advancing Uzbek-German cooperation, strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and enhancing cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev particularly underscored President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s personal contribution to the steady development of Germany’s and the European Union’s relations with Uzbekistan and the countries of Central Asia, as well as to the promotion of mutually beneficial interregional cooperation.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the intensive nature of bilateral dialogue and the high level of contacts between the two countries. Trade and investment cooperation continues to demonstrate strong momentum. Bilateral trade exceeded $1.4 billion last year and has grown by a further 5 percent since the beginning of this year, while German investment in Uzbekistan’s economy has reached $2 billion.
The leaders also highlighted the outcomes of the Days of German Economy and the 10th meeting of the German-Uzbek Business Council held in Tashkent in May. The events resulted in the signing of a package of investment and trade agreements worth more than $1 billion.
Cultural and humanitarian ties continue to strengthen. Today, more than 400,000 young people in Uzbekistan study the German language, while over 2,000 students are studying at leading German universities. Last year, the first Forum of Universities of the two countries was held.
An important step in the development of educational cooperation was the signing last week of an agreement with a consortium of German universities to establish the Uzbek-German University of Applied Sciences in Samarkand.
The heads of state reaffirmed their interest in further expanding cooperation across industry, energy and the green economy, transport and logistics, mining, textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education, and healthcare.
The leaders welcomed the launch of new joint projects and programs in the automotive industry, household chemicals production, logistics, and the training of qualified personnel. They also supported the holding of the second Forum of Universities and the third Uzbek-German Medical Forum in Tashkent.
The parties exchanged views on current regional and international issues and discussed prospects for cooperation within multilateral formats, including the Central Asia–Germany platform.
The leaders expressed confidence that the current visit of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier would open a new chapter in the development of Uzbek-German relations and contribute to the further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation across the full spectrum of the bilateral agenda.
The heads of state agreed to adopt a comprehensive roadmap to ensure the timely and effective implementation of all agreements reached.
