Following the open dialogue with entrepreneurs in Khiva, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the new Urgench–Khiva toll road.
Uzbekistan focuses on developing modern road infrastructure and improving the speed and safety of transport links. The legal framework for toll roads is also set out in the new version of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Highways,” adopted on August 5 this year. A mandatory condition is the availability of an alternative toll-free road for drivers.
The new highway, built between Urgench Airport and the city of Khiva, is designed to ensure safe, fast, and comfortable travel for residents and tourists.
As part of the project, 35 kilometers of highway, one underpass, eight overpasses, 15 bridges, and 106 culverts have been constructed.
While the journey from Urgench to Khiva on the existing road takes 45–50 minutes, the new four-lane highway will reduce travel time to 15–17 minutes.
The road has a capacity of more than 30,000 vehicles per day. Service and maintenance facilities meeting international standards are also planned along the route.
Traffic flows and the toll payment system will be managed using AI-based digital solutions. Cars, trucks, and buses will be able to pay tolls electronically without stopping.
A special modified bitumen mixture resistant to high temperatures was used in the upper layers of the road surface. The total thickness of the pavement is 87 centimeters.
The new highway will make travel between Urgench and Khiva faster and more convenient, while taking the region’s transport infrastructure to a new level.
Following this, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev concluded his visit to Khorezm and departed for Tashkent.
