On the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
At the beginning of the meeting, the UN Secretary-General warmly congratulated President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, wishing them peace, well-being, and prosperity.
The two sides discussed further expanding and strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN and its institutions.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highly praised António Guterres’s personal contribution to advancing multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN and expressed support for the Secretary-General’s initiatives to reform the UN system.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the intensive dialogue and exchange of visits, as well as Uzbekistan’s expanding participation in the work of UN elected bodies. In recent years, the UN General Assembly has adopted 15 resolutions initiated by Uzbekistan.
António Guterres welcomed Uzbekistan’s significant progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The sides expressed readiness to further strengthen cooperation in this area.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on key international and regional issues, as well as a review of the schedule of upcoming joint events.
