In keeping with tradition, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev began his visit to Samarkand at the Imam Bukhari Memorial Complex. Verses from the Qur’an were recited and prayers were offered.

During the visit, the Head of State was briefed on the implementation of his instructions to ensure the effective use of the complex and further enhance its tourism potential, as well as to develop Islamic enlightenment and pilgrimage tourism through the preservation, study and international promotion of Imam Bukhari’s rich scholarly legacy.

The President emphasized the importance of continuing these efforts.

“This great scholar left us a rich legacy of knowledge and scholarship. By continuing to build on this scholarly legacy, we can achieve even more.

Every time I visit the mausoleum of our great ancestor, I pray for the well-being of our people and for ever greater prosperity in every family.

We will do even more to preserve and promote the legacy of our great ancestors. We will create every opportunity for people from around the world to come to Uzbekistan and visit the Center for Islamic Civilization and the Imam Bukhari Complex,” the President said.

The memorial complex, rebuilt at the initiative of the President, is one of the Islamic world’s sacred sites and continues to attract numerous pilgrims from Uzbekistan and abroad. While the complex previously received up to 12,000 visitors a day, that figure now exceeds 65,000.

A mosque with a capacity of 10,000 worshippers, a grand mausoleum, four 75-meter minarets and blue domes add to the grandeur of the complex.

The innovative museum, created using advanced information technologies, provides a comprehensive overview of the history of Islam, the lives of the prophets and the scholarly work of the renowned hadith scholar Imam Bukhari. Unique exhibits are also on display.

The complex now provides all necessary facilities for pilgrims, with services meeting international standards. More than 20 modern hotels operate here.
