President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the project for a new international airport in Tashkent region and took part in a ceremony marking the start of construction of this large-scale complex.
As Tashkent continues to develop and transform into a modern metropolis, more and more tourists, entrepreneurs, investors, and government officials are coming to our country from different regions of the world. After Uzbekistan opened up to the world, the number of foreign tourists grew from 3 million to 10 million, and by 2030, this figure will reach 15 million.
The restoration of good-neighborly relations and the opening of borders have created conditions for free movement throughout the region.
New Tashkent, which is being built on the initiative of the head of state, will also become one of the most vibrant centers of the country thanks to its convenient location, investment attractiveness, and comfortable living conditions.
In line with this, all areas of transport infrastructure are being developed consistently, with particular attention being paid to the formation of a new ecosystem in the aviation industry.
In particular, seven international airports are being reconstructed in various regions of the country in accordance with modern standards.
At the same time, new airports have been built in Muynak, Kokand, Zaamin, Shakhrisabz, Saryasia, and Soh, bringing the total number of airports in the country to eighteen.
Most importantly, a competitive environment has been created in the industry. As a result, 15 new airlines have emerged, and the aircraft fleet has grown from 26 to 105 aircraft.
Today, 51 airlines from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, South Korea, China, India, Malaysia, Türkiye, Russia, Poland, and other countries operate regular flights to Uzbekistan.
In his speech, the President noted that the development of transport infrastructure and the modernization of air transport will remain among the priority areas.
Over the next five years, the number of aircraft in the fleet will be increased to 180, the number of routes to 230, and the volume of domestic and international flights will increase to 200 thousand per year.
Measures to develop airport infrastructure on the basis of public-private partnerships will continue to be implemented consistently.
- Ultimately, our goal is to turn Uzbekistan into a major aviation hub connecting East and West, North and South, - emphasized Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The construction of a new international airport will create a solid foundation for this.
According to the analysis, passenger traffic to the capital has tripled over the past eight years, reaching 9 million people per year, and will exceed 24 million by 2040. However, the existing airport, designed for 11 million passengers per year and located within the city limits, cannot be expanded.
Therefore, considering the proposals of leading international experts and the opinions of the general public, a decision has been made to build a new international airport in the Urtachirchik and Kuyichirchik districts on an area of 1,300 hectares.
The project, implemented jointly with an international consortium of companies Vision Invest of Saudi Arabia, Sojitz of Japan, and Incheon of South Korea, includes four stages. In the first stage, costing $2,5 billion, an airport complex and an airfield will be built. Once completed, the airport will be able to handle up to 20 million passengers and 129 thousand tons of cargo annually, perform up to 30 takeoffs and landings per hour, use 14 telescopic ramps, and accommodate 62 aircraft simultaneously.
The new airport will fully comply with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for service quality, flight safety, and technical regulation.
It will be equipped with the most modern air navigation and meteorological systems, which will allow it to accept aircraft in all weather conditions.
Special attention has been paid to environmental standards: the new airport will be the first in the region to comply with green building principles. The terminal will have a 46 thousand square meter duty-free zone.
The construction of the airport will be part of the formation of a multimodal transport hub.
The new complex will be directly connected to the Tashkent-Samarkand, Tashkent-Andijan, and Tashkent-Bostanlyk highways. A modern railway station will also be built here, which will be served by high-speed trains, and a shuttle service will be established between the centers of Tashkent and New Tashkent.
Most importantly, the new airport will become not only a transport hub but also an economic center. The project will bring the country over $27 billion in revenue, contribute to the further development of the service sector, industry, and tourism, and create thousands of new jobs.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked foreign partners, representatives of financial institutions, and tourism companies who attended the event. He expressed his high confidence in the engineers and builders involved in the project.
The Head of State laid a capsule in the foundation of the new Tashkent International Airport, giving the official start to its construction.
