As part of his visit to the Fergana region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the development concept for Fergana International Airport.
The current airport terminal has been in operation for over thirty years. Its capacity, level of passenger comfort, and potential for the development of aviation and non-aviation services no longer fully meet modern requirements.
In this regard, comprehensive development of the airport’s infrastructure is planned. The project aims to expand the geography of flights and improve the quality of service, taking into account the region’s growing economic activity and increasing tourist flow.
The presentation addressed the extension and widening of the runway, modernization of airfield infrastructure, and the construction of new passenger and cargo terminals.
The new passenger terminal, with an area of about 20,000 square meters, will be able to serve up to 1,200 passengers—double its current capacity. Additional aircraft stands will also be created, increasing the airport’s capacity to 10 aircraft.
The terminal will feature spacious waiting halls, modern service areas, efficient check-in and security systems, as well as dedicated facilities for high-ranking guests.
The Head of State emphasized that airports serve as the gateway to any region and offered recommendations on organizing modern services and developing transport and related infrastructure.
The importance of designing, constructing, and subsequently managing the terminal in line with international standards, with the involvement of experienced foreign operators, was also highlighted.
The project’s implementation will help strengthen transport connectivity in the Fergana Valley, increase tourist flow, and enhance the region’s role as a logistics hub.
The President then concluded his visit to the Fergana region and returned to Tashkent.
